Focus on Sustainability

Monks Engineers, LLC has embraced the concept of the sustainable building by creating designs which focus on energy efficiency and building ecology. We specialize in designing heating and cooling systems that tap the Earth’s inexhaustible supply of renewable energy through geothermal heat exchange while enhancing the quality of the indoor environment by maximizing air quality and lighting efficiency. Lighting controls harvest the available natural light in a space and reduce the energy used by the lighting fixtures while maintaining consistent footcandle levels. These are just a few of the strategies that we have been using in our designs for more than 20 years.

Monks Engineers, LLC is involved with the U.S. Green Building Council’s system of defining and measuring “green buildings.” Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) provides a benchmark to standardize which designs are truly sustainable and documents our ability to produce energy efficient systems.

We are experienced in all aspects of the LEED certification process and can typically provide designs for our clients which meet four of the seven prerequisites and 16 of the 26 points required for basic certification just by addressing the Plumbing, HVAC and Electrical system designs. This is accomplished by our willing participation in the process of integrated design that is really the key component to successful high-performance building designs.

he heart of many of our high performance buildings is our geothermal heat exchanger design for the HVAC systems and domestic water heating.
